I like eating out. I like buying beautiful paintings and being surrounded by beautiful things. I have to finance that life. I can barely afford a pension scheme because I don’t make enough money.
It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.
I just like being on my own on trains, traveling. We live in an age of generational turmoil. Baby-boom parents are accused of clinging on to jobs and houses which they should be freeing up for their children. Twentysomethings who can’t afford to leave home and can’t get jobs are attacked as aimless and immature.
Civilization, to be worthy of the name, must afford other methods of settling human differences than those of blood letting.
